Yaxley is the true "Gateway to the fens" situated between Peterborough and the Great North Road (A1) at Normans Cross.

It has been in existence for many centuries as a base for farming, mainly arable.

It is responsible for large numbers of mushrooms and potatoes which are still processed by local industry.

The village is now skirted by the new Hampton township that was built on the old brickyards to the north/north west of the village.
