I'm piggybacking off the "decline of stockport" thread a little, here...

I've been going to Foodie Friday at the start of the month in the old town and I think it's terrific how popular it has become. That having been said, I visited Altrincham market for the first time the other day and wondered where it had been all my life!

There's loads of excellent independant food stalls as well as stalls doing beer and wine along with little indie shops flogging their goods. It was so busy and I gather it's on all weekend every weekend. It'd be fantastic to have this sort of presence in Stockport old town - sure there's the usual weekend markets, however with a bit of refinement I think it could be transformed into a destination that people would trip over themselves to get to, rather than it being somewhere where you can pick up a new pair of socks for 50p. I love Stockport market, however I think there are some valuable lessons to be learned from Alty market.

Just a thought on the off chance someone with the right connections can look at making this happen :)
