This is what they wrote on Facebook:

"We have some very sad news. As of last Saturday night, the Bakers Vaults has closed it`s doors for the very last time. Due to the costs of Robinson`s beer, the high cost of renting the building, the extortionate cost of business rates from Stockport Council, and the ridiculous cost of utilities. We have no choice but to close the doors on our beloved pub. We have tried for months to keep the doors open, but our finances will only go so far. It`s a shame, as we had finally won the war with the brewery for the new toilets, but all that came too little, too late. We are devastated that we have had to make this decision, as The Bakers has been part of our family for years. We knew, when we took it on, it would be a struggle, but for the love of our pub, the people in it and the music, we pledged to keep it open, no matter what. However, Stockport has become a ghost town and being surrounded by so many cheaper establishments, a fully tied Robinson`s house, cannot begin to compete on price. And of course we understand that our customers are always in need of a cheaper beer. The pub trade has become impossible, unless you serve food or cheap beer. We have made some wonderful friends, had the finest of bands, and had the best staff, both past and present. We have been honored to have been part of the Bakers family. We have loved our time at Bakers and will never forget it. We will always remember the good nights that we spent over the last years. But the pub just cannot keep up with the high costs that surround it. Anyone who has bought a New Years Eve ticket will be fully refunded. Please message me. We love you and thank you all for sticking by us for so long. Much love from Tony, Yvonne, Pete and Ash xxx"

No doubt Robbies will try and find another licensee, but the basic problems are that there are too many Robbies pubs in the local area, their beers are unexceptional, and they charge too much for them. Doing a runner at such short notice, with tickets for New Year already sold, does seem rather odd though. If they really have gone bust, where will they find the money to reimburse people? More to this than meets the eye methinks.
