You are implying that introduction of uncertainty is a good thing. More uncertainty could be introduced by have a four way crossroads with the directive 'Nobody has the right of way'. So much for uncertainty.

It may look 'pretty' with the 'large mosaic' pattern BUT any that makes the roundabouts less obvious is stepping away from safety.

There will be collisions occuring at this junction once local have gained confidence to move faster through it when a non-local approaches the worse for wear.

Cosmetics before Safety in my opinion ... but that's my opinion.
Hi Wrinkly and welcome to the forum.

Yes, I am saying uncertainty is a good thing and it IS a four way junction where nobody has right of way and everybody has right of way! And it works! Speeds approaching the junction down. Through-put is consistent and waiting times have been reduced. Serious accidents have not happened. I'll repeat the stats I have from May. I'm just waiting on the updated ones. Once I have them, I'll post them here.

Police RTC data injury and damage only for (Aug 2010 Mar 2012)
Injury stats in time frame: 37 for all Poynton post codes
In construction zone [gateways define the zone]: 9, of which 1 is classed as serious (see below for description)
Out of zone: 29 of which 6 are classed as serious
Or put another way, within the construction zone: 1 in 9 ratio for serious injury. In the remainder of Poynton: 1 in 4 ratio.
Damage stats: 153 RTC recorded by the Police across Poynton in the period - Only 13 in zone (discounting car parks)
The one serious injury within the zone reads as follows: PEDESTRIAN CASUALTY PASSENGER ON BUS, ARRIVES AT STOP AND RUNS AROUND INFRONT OF THE BUS WITHOUT LOOKING INTO MAIN CARRIAGEWAY. VEHICLE 1 ONCOMING PASSING STATIONARY BUS COLLIDES WITH PEDESTRIAN.

And you make a really good point about locals gaining confidence and subsequently speeding through. It's been really amazing but the local population have really got their heads around the scheme and there has been a noticeable increase in politeness and general good manners about the village. That's not a researched fact, that's observation and anecdotal based. But basically, drivers and pedestrians are making eye contact, waving each other through etc and that level of consideration for others is filtering through in to all areas.

I'll update this thread with a video about the scheme shortly. It's still in production but it shows the before and after stories.
