As much as I agree with your sentiments about HG and Poynton Adora I don't feel that the Fountain Place refurb. would be appropriate for the main drag through HG - Fiveways maybe - but not the A6.

The improvement of HG could not be totally financed by SMBC and nor should it. But here is the catch 22; HG needs to attract the big players with the big money. Then the residents (and the councillors jumping on the bandwaggon) would complain (Tesco is an example) about the extra traffic those big players would bring and to a certain extent that’s a valid point.

The A6 is nearing capacity (some would argue its already there) and the only way we can accommodate more 'local' traffic is to remove the traffic that use HG as a cut through to the wider motorway network. The Airport relief road, I think, will allow that to happen to a small degree but it’s the bypass that would have the biggest impact. The Airport only got the nod because it’s a quick win by CENTRAL government and to meet the requirements of the Airport to expand.

HG needs to go more family orientated i.e if bars are to be introduced then 50% (min) of takings should be based on food. I can't think of one place in the Grove that serves the quality dining experience. Perhaps rates on business units need to be looked at to induce smaller businesses to come to the Grove i.e 3-6 months free rent. TBH, there are not that many empty units in the Grove – less than some places!

There has been some talk about a high end cycle shop just up from the Rising Sun and that the ‘Boss’ is ‘helping’ with there planning permission (I have asked why they need help but as he must have blocked my posts). I know this company is weighing up two possibilities, HG and one in Poynton so if the councillor is persuading them to come to HG then that’s great. Its this type of company HG should be attracting and I’m surprised we haven’t got an ‘outdoor’ type of shop given we are on the edge of the Peak District although we do have a couple within five miles away.

Just my thoughts!
