The Care UK team at Abney Court in Cheadle showed its support for the annual Bark in the Park event in Abney Hall Park, and residents at the new care home made the most of the opportunity to join in the fun at the popular village fete and dog show.

With Care UK sponsoring the dog-friendly event, Pam Wilson, customer relations manager at the Abney Court care home, also lent a hand by helping to judge the dog show, which included categories such as the cutest puppy, waggiest tail, and dogs who look most like their owner.

Residents from the care home, which is located in the grounds of Abney Hall Park, visited the fete and one resident enjoyed an emotional reunion with a very special four-legged friend. Colin Billinge left his dog Bella in the care of his family when he moved to Abney Court; and on the day of the show, his family surprised Colin with a visit from Bella so they could spend the day together.

Pam Wilson said: “Bark in the Park is a superb community event which brings together people young and old, and we were delighted to pledge our support and to be involved in some way. It was a privilege to play a part in judging the dog show and it was not at all easy to choose the winners with so many fabulous pooches entering.

“The residents loved spending time in Abney Hall Park, soaking up the atmosphere throughout the day – and watching the many different dog breeds playing and getting up to mischief. Seeing Colin and Bella reunited was a real highlight, it was very touching moment.”

Care UK’s Abney Court care home is located in the grounds of Abney Hall Park. It provides a range of care services, from residential and specialist dementia care, to short-term respite and sensitive palliative end of life care.
