Jan, I'm copying a post from Cllr Kevin Hogg, one of the Hazel Grove councillors, from another local website. He said:

"I have promises from the executive and officers that, even if Viridor" - the new contractors for the Greater Manchester Waste Disposal Authority - "close this facility, the council will at least retain the recycling areas. Unfortunately we will not be able to take black rubbish bags there.
Most of the stuff I take goes in the paper or cardboard anyway and metals, etc., should still be ok.
Keep you updated if I hear more".

I have been running and co-ordinating a petition against closure. Up to now I have around 1,000 names. If anyone wants a copy I can email one to you.

It must be back by 22nd August to hand to the Exec member for inclusion in a seminar that Virador are doing on 5th Sept.

Is there any more news on what's happening with the Tip?

The petition has been put in and the executive member Cllr Stuart Bodsworth (environment) has promised me that whatever happens Torkinton tip will stay open. Plans are being worked on to make it larger. wether this can happen is hard to say at this stage as access to the allotments will still be required. I will post anything new as it happens

An interesting series of posts to look back on from Cllr Hogg, others 'copying and pasting' on his behalf and sentiments of local residents. Even the Executive Member Cllr Stuart Bodsworth (environment) is in on it "promising" Cllr Hogg Torkington Tip will not close.

So who exactly can't be trusted to keep their promises?

This is interesting, in light of the closure of the tip.
Have a read back, and see the assurances.
Does this prove, that even with Kevin's 1000 signiture petition, we don't really get listened to, and might well be screaming into the wind?

Makes it difficult to know what or who to believe? We've recently been told it's "viridors fault" the tip is closing, something "the council have no control over".

What happened to these "promises"?
