You have referenced your opinion also on what you believe is fraud. Again this is a legal matter - not something we can just speculate about.

Bottom line, the only thing that is being claimed here is that expenditure may have been reported incorrectly. That does not necessarily mean an intention to deliberately deceive - that is what the police have to assess. What went on and who is reponsible?

This is something being seen across the country and across parties so I think this is more likely that the compliance departments at the top of Conservative, Labour and Liberal Democrats have been providing potentially incorrect advise or interpretations of the rules.

I see that when Kent police applied for more time to investigate the allegations of fraud the torys sent solicitors to oppose the action ?
The act of a party with nothing to hide ?

So again, this is not alleged fraud or actual fraud.

All that has happened is that claims that expenditure was not properly reported and filed have been made concerning the battlebus. The police have been granted an extension to the 1 year time frame in order to investigate the basis for these complaints and ultimately established what if any further action is required.

It's just fundamentally not true to suggest anyone is being investigated for fraud (alleged or otherwise) here. I would suggest that given this is a legally sensitive and ongoing matter, that anyone posting on this topic should stick to the facts, not speculation and misinformation.

Again I also reiterate, this is a matter being looked at with all parties, not just the Conservatives.
"So again, this is not alleged fraud or actual fraud."
So the Police are wasting their time as nothing actually happened?

Well that's clearly not what I was saying as per the below quote:

"The police have been granted an extension to the 1 year time frame in order to investigate the basis for these complaints and ultimately established what if any further action is required. "

I take your point Oliver that at this moment in time it is just an investigation into an administration error and not an investigation into alleged fraud, as I first thought after reading the headlines and listening to prime ministers questions.

This error was due to presumably someone putting the battle bus expenses etc into the wrong column. Or no one really knowing for sure what expenses fell under local or national expenses. And as such invertably putting the expenses against local and not national expenses, or should it be the other way round...well you take my point.

But either way surely even if it was a genuine mistake it would have given the Conservatives an unfair advantage at that election by having more money to spend on campaigning?

But like you say only time will tell what really happened, but it's a big blunder to make none the less at such a crucial time.

I cannot comment on what advantage this would have given any candidate as it is virtually impossible to quantify but given the fact that they were only bringing activists for around half a day's campaigning to each seat, I am sceptical as to whether it made a genuine impact on the result. We spent over 2 years campaigning for the General Election in Hazel Grove so half a day is a drop in the ocean.

Again, it would appear that this is something that has been replicated in the other parties too so it may be that the rules need clarification or reviewing.

See my post of February 2016

"Busted. How will the Con Party explain this?"

Have you watched it Oliver?

It seems very much like game, set and match, in the Channel 4 documentary. This is a very serious situation, not something you can blame on anyone else, and you can be sure that Cameron's Cronies will be desperately scratching their heads for an answer before the return of the Dark One.

If the Con Party are guilty of breaking the law, what do you think should happen?

It could be a UK version of Watergate or Pig-gate II in his case. I'm praying it will be just that.

No I haven't watched it but I am aware of the allegations within it.

With respect, I am a public figure in this context and there is an ongoing investigation so I will refrain from giving my opinion on what's and ifs. I think we should allow the police and the experts the space and transparency to complete their inquiries.
