So planning permission has been applied for to change the white hart into flats and Robels into a take away .
Another boozer going and yet another take away in the grove ?
Just what we're short of 😫

Not got an issue with "another boozer" going. There are still too many for the level of business nowadays, i think there are as many establishments as there always was, over the years we have gained The Lounge, Browns, Huffeys, The Grove Ale House, The Grove Wine Bar while losing failing pubs like The Woodman, The Grove, The White Hart, if they had been viable they wouldn't have closed.

Times have changed, people have different needs, different priorities. It would only be an issue if the ones that were left were creaking at the seams but they arent, only a couple are noticeably doing well.

A new take away, well thats a different matter, why would anyone want to open one, the ones that are there are fighting for the limited amount of business there is, diluting it even more would be madness.

Flats are ok, they will get filled.

Not sure what I would open there, not sure there is any type of business that would flourish on the A6 in Hazel Grove, too much going against it, Supermarkets, lack of parking, congestion etc

I drank in the hart for 40 years so sorry to see it go !
As for to many pubs bars for level of trade then yeh there is but the grove is rapidly becoming like levenshume which I find really sad .
As long as the A6 is as busy the grove isn't going to improve.

I used to thoroughly enjoy drinking at the White Hart and miss it now when I am out for a drink as no longer being an option to retire somewhere a bit quieter.

The application is currently with the planning officer and there are some concerns that have been raised by Councillors and also by the police so I will keep you all updated as and when.

You're up early TwistedBanana 😊

I think Oliver meant retire as in withdraw to a quite place. Instead of the what the modern bars now offer. Which is a more livelier setting.

I'm in favour of more apartments/flats/homes being built or offices. Anything.... but please no more takeaways.

They might be great for passing trade but they add little value to the Grove.

I live near two takeaways and I'm sick and tired of the constant flow of litter that comes from them.

I'm not for one minute comparing Bramhall to the Grove so don't all start shouting at me, but driving through Bramhall and the likes, that have just as much traffic going through, but yet they seem to have a nice shopping balance going on, with a good variety of shops all doing really well.

Unfortunately though we have Sainsburys and Asda which have ruined business for the smaller trade in the Grove. So perhaps the only way forward now is not to continue to try and keep the now redundant smaller shops going by turning them mostly into takeaways. But to take the opportunity to turn them into much needed homes.

I'm sure that the benifits would balance the loss of a burger, chips or soft drinks...

Been up all night with what i think is sciatica, doctors closed so just endured the joys of the 111 service, i have now added "lost the will to live" to my symptons

Serenity, you have hit the nail right on the head, the "village" has been destroyed by the supermarkets. There was always a small presence but since Sainsburys arrived the village has died a death, I would love to string up the person who approved that, it is an absolute travesty, Everything was so wrong with the approval, there were so many negatives including congestion and the destruction of small traders but it went ahead anyway, must have been a good few pockets lined

Twisted - I would like to think I am some way off actual retirement at the ripe old age of 25 ;)

I agree re the proliferation of takeaways. I have nothing against people starting up a takeaway business and I am partial to a donner kebab after a few sherberts but I don't think it is good for Hazel Grove to have this many.

Hopefully with a new administration in the Town Hall, the Council will listen to my calls for new local district centre strategies where it fell on deaf ears with the previous lot.
