There was a good turn out at Hazel Grove War Memorial yesterday for the Remembrance Day ceremony and service. Revd Rob Green from Norbury conducted the service on a beautiful cold and crisp autumn morning. Some of us (the older ones who knew the words and tune) sang 'Oh Valiant Heart', and thought back to our fathers and grandfathers who had fought in the Great War - because that was their hymn It was also gratifying to see many quite young people showing their respects. Well done to the Legion for continuing to organise this commemoration, which some of us thought might fade away with the passing of the veterans from the two world wars.

I was at the service yesterday, beautiful day, but I thought the numbers were down on previous years. Good to see Alan's grandson taking on his grandfathers role in calling out the names of wreath layers organisations.
Remembrance Sunday is something that always reminds me of our Britishness. No other country in the world can produce what we do to commemorate the sacrifice of so many lives.
Age shall not weary them.............

As the years have gone by and the world wars become more distant and the survivors numbers slowly diminish, It is heart warming to see the numbers at the cenotaph seem to increase year on year. Sending out a wonderful message to our troops currently in battle in different parts of the world and to their families who wait praying for their safe return - a message to tell them that the people of their country are humbled by you all.

From the eldest to the youngest there was probably an age gap of nearly a century, all stood side by side at the villages memorial, just goes to show, promises were kept and "we will remember them"

I hope this country will carry on with this tradition. It is one truly british thing that most people participate in. We should never forget what our brave servicemen and women, have, and are still doing for our country. Bless you all.
