It'll be interesting to see how it pans out that's for sure.

Ultimately if it works then great, it's a patch of wasteland put to good use. If it doesn't then it's at the very least a patch of wasteland tidied up and hopefully no public money wasted (assuming its entirely funded by Stagecoach).

It could be a no-lose situation for us locals!

I would have thought that part of the reason they have done it is to compete directly with those who use the train on the back of 10 years of above inflation price rises etc.

It gives a lot more flexibility to those who commute rather than simply coming into Picadilly they have a massive array of stops on the 192 route alone, dedicated times for the inside lane of the A6 being largely bus only.

Free parking at the start of the A6 with lighting and security cameras, a mega rider for the week (with access to Wifi on the new buses so people can be 'working' during their commute) and not having to pay city centre parking rates or having to worry about going back to the car park to top up the parking meter if running out of time etc. It certainly stacks up for them to offer free parking if using their service. I would expect that they will probably have some sort of barrier system where you scan your bus ticket to get out of the car park and prevent people not using the sercvice from having somewhere to park at their expense etc?

Maybe there is a longer term objective to encourage people away from private car to public transport by introducing more bus lanes.

I remember reading this some time ago in the "Draft complementary and mitigation measures" doc on the relief road website.

"The reduction in traffic through Hazel Grove presents the opportunity to reallocate road space in a more sustainable manner by for example, the introduction of bus lanes where space permits, and/or by reducing the number of lanes to a single lane in each direction with a shared third lane for right-turning provision and pedestrian refuges."

Why always the council?
R u serious, because cllr Hogg the council should be responsible for everything in Stockport as otherwise what's the point in having a council?
Yes it's a application by stagecoach but doesn't stockport council have a part say in approval?
The same Stockport council that allowed the asda lights fiasco to drag on for many months, asda should have been fined for taking that long and causing misery to many people, also the council has allowed many other developments around Stockport to cause more congestion over the years, and your saying why the council, well what's the point in having a council if they don't have a say?
I bet you say why the council being blamed for losing 4.5 mill too lol!
As for traffic lights and getting out, yes there's traffic lights already in the bus turn around area that could be used but I just don't agree with more lights on the a6, haven't they caused enough slowing down of the traffic, would these lights being put in the road cause many months of traffic backlogging again like asda lights fiasco?
I definately think its worth a try to do something with this wasteland and could be a win win but it'd the extra set of lights that worrys me with hazel grove traffic on a knife edge and going off past and present modifications to the a6 I think I have a right to be concerned with the affect of more junctions!

Come on then Glenandem put your money where your mouth is and stand for council. Instead of uninformed opinion you could do what most Cllrs do fight against national rules that prevent you doing little but tinker at the edges.
Now we have pickles of course it is ten times worse

Put my money where my mouth is!
Wish I had spare money to put in my mouth like yourself cllr, it seems to be big enough!
Unfortunately most of my money is taken off me by the gov for car tax, fuel tax, income tax, tax on food, pretty much tax on most things this greedy government can put on and now your party is putting up the c tax too, probably to cover the 4.5 mil lost that Somone in authority should have kept an eye on or am I ill informed on that from the local paper?
As for standing as a cllr, I would do it for free do you currently do it for free excluding expenditure?
Personally I think most cllrs are crooked and I say most not all, it's up to you what you class yourself as, as we've seen in the last few years on the news they keep popping out claiming extra homes etc, I even knew of a certain cllr in Stockport who ran a few taxi minibuses a few years back which where bangers but just about road legal but knew they needed work but was happy to do the school runs carrying children everyday with the school contracts he mysteriously won every year?
If you want to be a cllr that's up to you but you have to listen to the public once in a while and that's why we have a free say but you seem to not like that on these forums, you only pop up to argue with people and only occasionally answer questions that are asked of you, I asked about 3 times a few weeks ago how much the road signs for semmms cost and you being such a dedicated person to the bypass should know generally things like this or I would thought be able to find out things like this as your supporting it so you should generally know what money goes where but you never replied back?
So I'll ask again do you know how much has been spent on the road signs for the semmms around Stockport just out of interest as I'm interested to know where my taxes are going when schools are shutting, our local tip, roads need resurfacing, town hall staff being laid off, certain playgrounds aren't getting fixed up?

So cllr Hogg you admit that cllrs have no power and the £1.5 million we spend on them in this borough every year is wasted money we currently have 63 cllrs for stockport multiply that by the councils across the country there's money to be saved . But jobs for the boys rules

Glen, you seem to be getting central government and local government mixed up.

You also seem to fail to acknowledge that it's a coalition government so you cannot place the blame for anything solely at the feet of the Lib Dems, or the Conservatives for that matter.

If you would do it for free, better still. Go out and do it...

I do feel sorry for Councillor Hogg. He comes on here, gives people his time (if you agree with him or not) and gets a huge amount of s*** for doing so. Those that don't bother, or only show up when it suits them, get off pretty much scott free.

I'm sure people would rather have a Councillors input than not?

Hi Norma, firstly I would honestly do it for free with my expenses paid for and by that I don't mean claiming everything I can just what It costs me to carry out the role rather than every little thing I can and try to screw a second home etc lol but I honestly feel firstly I wouldn't be able to change things and secondly my prioritys are my family and I imagine its a full time job in a way taking your whole life up!
I'm happy that people like cllr Hogg do the job but that's his choice and when people like you say that he comes on here and people give him shit as you say then what's the problem, he's allowed to have his say and so am I, its abit like you and some of the other forum members I've seen a lot of people's posts saying your nasty and basically a bully but personally I think everyone should be allowed a say and get on with it!
But if cllr Hogg feels he can't change much if anything why do we bother paying so much money to have so many cllrs at local level surely the country as a whole could cut them cllrs down per ward from 3 I believe to 2?
Would that not make a big difference to firstly the country's budget on cllrs, I mean we're having cut backs everywhere else so why not cllrs?
Secondly would or could it not make cllrs work harder to help the public and keep themselves voted in come election time?
Finally good luck to cllr Hogg and yes I appreciatte any cllr who has time to come on here and give his thoughts but a lot of the time I seem to see him replying back to people because he doesn't like they're opinion, I asked a question a few weeks ago and didn't get a reply and I've noticed he's not answered a few questions to a few people in the past and its not because he's such a busy man and he's stated in the past he regularly follows the forums but just conveniently seems to answer the posts he wants to and avoids the hard questions which is good of a cllr to do lol
