Site Update
5th July 2012 at 7:25PM, Edit: 5th July 2012 at 7:38PM by Rene
Hi Grovers. Some updates for the site include a business directory and pages for local groups such as clubs and schools etc.

We also have a people section for users and the ability to add friends.

We are going to trial no guest posting in Hazel Grove and we have updated the standards to emphasise the positive child friendly environment we want to try and create in trying to reduce the trolling as much as possible.

You can change your account settings to hide posts that have been negatively rated.

cant help thinking that the forum will loose a lot of vibrancy if it stays with the "no guests"policy

I hope not but if it does then we can turn guests back on. It is only a trial because it seemed that a lot of people wanted to stop guests before.

Hopefully a few of the guests will create user names to take part.

I think people are exaggerating the term troll on here.

And as for making it child friendly, f..., s..., b........ So where do adults (the real adults not the child adults!) go and discuss and debate stuff. Totally devalues the site unless, well, I can't be bothered!

The objective is to stop the negative hijacking of posts.

Using the term 'child friendly' is an idea to try and achieve that.

What do you think is the best way to achieve it?

So far, updating the standards, and trialling no guests is being tried. We can improve the wording of the standards if people have some ideas.

You'd have to provide examples of 'negative hijacking of threads' and its fine to use my posts if you think they are an example to be able to discuss ;-)

But this is what moderators are for; to delete post or comments that aren't suitable and then clearly warn the poster. Any further infringement then the poster is banned and so is there IP address - this being a prehistoric forum not sure if it has the technology.

Clearly, what is suitable is subjective and there has been an example recently where I thought the mods should have deleted some link (and the links only) and later in the day another mod deleted the whole post. I'm not knocking either mod as, as I said earlier its all subjective. Where I mod, there is a quarantine area where we move posts if a mod thinks the post is on the border, we quickly discuss and put back, modify or delete where necessary. Again, I suspect this forum hasn't the technology.

Post often go off topic and its annoying but easily done, even in the spoken conversation. I'm guilty of taking a number of posts off topic but then a mod should be popping in and reminding them (I suspect mods are just as guilty of taking posts off topic lol)

I'd love to know what limers has done to earn a ban. Clearly, a colourful character but some of his posts can be thought provoking and sometimes says what we think privately rather than what we like to hear. If this is part of the dumming down of the site then I'll get the Sanatagon and SAGA subscription ready and say goodnight!

Hello Robot69, Our forums, along with the rest of the website, is custom software which is developed in house by our team of programmers. As such we may not have all of the features you are accustomed to on other forums.

If there are any valuable features that you think we could incorporate into the forums, or the rest of the website, we would welcome the suggestions via our contact form.

That's not good!

Why not make available Smileys. Sometime the context of a note can be clarified by adding a Smiley.

Having the ability for the Mods to split posts, merge posts of the same subject etc

I've not added these to you desired location as I feel, as this is a community forum, it should be discussed in the open how to improve the forum. (I'd use a thumbs up emiticon here)
