Sainsbury’s taking up the block paving

They are taking up the block paving at the front right hand side of Sainsbury's in the Grove, could this be in preparation for a petrol station to the rear of the building. Any one know more?

It's not for the petrol station, as I believe they failed to get planning permission when they first opened, so they sold the land (which now has retirement apartments on it).

As I understand it, this is for an extra lane to leave the car park, which will then join up with the lane for turning left on to the A6.

You have the right of it. It is for alterations to Sainsbury entrance into the car park to reduce standing traffic on the A6

Will any of these alterations help the lane on the a6 on the far side turning right into sainsburys where it fits about 4 cars then stops one lane of the a6 which sometimes goes all the way back and knocks onto asda lights where people sit in the middle of the rd in the yellow box and other cars can't turn out or in!!

Put this link
http://www.google.com/search?client=ubuntu&channel=fs&q=widening+of+road+hazel+grove+sainsburys&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&gl=uk

in google 4th down "Sainsburys car park" you can dowload a PDF, scroll down to page 35 I think you get a few plans of what's being done!

Could probably get to it quicker but I can't find any plans on Stockport website.

Having had a look at the drawings, it's still not clear how this will have any effect on the traffic on the A6!

All it will do is make exiting the store a little easier, which admittedly can be nightmare!

But what about helping the flow from on the A6? This will not make any difference to that, we'll still have countless cars queuing up for the store!

Thanks for that Coleman. I've had a look at the plans but from what I can see it will make no difference to the flow of traffic on the main road.

Perhaps Kevin could shed a bit more light on the subject.

I would of thought the best way of increasing the flow of traffic would be to get the sequence of lights right.

Perhaps there some reason that they all seem to change at difference times.

From what i can see the filter lanes seem to be green for longer during peak times. That said there have been times where it's blatantly gone out of sync!

The biggest issue i see is the filter lane to turn in to Sainsburys from northbound is no where near long enough!

I'm a resident near Sainsbury's and have to use their entrances and exits to access my house. The traffic light sequence is done in a ridiculously bad way (although to be fair the rest of the Grove is the same so we haven't been singled out!). I was really hoping they were going to put in a roundabout at the Peter Street/Mill Street/Sainsburys car park entrance crossroads, doesn't solve the problem on the A6 itself but I'm not sure how it'd be possible to do that anyway

after just looking at the map, it will work in the same way as the system they have in place at xmas which is always the busiest period of the year.

At xmas they have marshals that force the incoming traffic into the first aisles (like the map) which improves the flow in and out.

Based on xmas i think it will be a big improvement than it was before.
