How do they get away with it?

I note Cllr Christine Corris is again trying to take credit for other peoples success’s and campaigns.

On the front page of the latest keeping in touch leaflet it says, “Christine Corris – a record of local action”, then says “Phone Mast Stopped – the proposed phone mast at Chester Road/Lyndhurst Avenue has been stopped.

Christine Corris, vice chair of the planning committee said it is great that an unsuitable mast like this can be stopped in residential areas. This was a totally unsuitable site next to homes and schools”. It also shows a photograph of Cllr Corris standing at the junction

What a terrible misrepresentation of the truth this is. The truth is, Mr Horton, a resident near to the proposed phone mast site started this campaign. He is the one who rallied the local community to get behind opposing the planning application in the usual way, via Stockport Council. Mr Horton is the one who arranged for a group of local residents who are opposed to the mast to meet up with the Stockport Express at the proposed site.

When Mr Horton (someone incidentally I have never met, for the record) organised for the Stockport Express to come down to meet residents, Cllr Chritine Corris was nowhere to be seen. I did note at the time Cllr Hogg and Mr Corris seized the photo opportunity with both hands! Cllr Hogg commenting that he had only heard about the meeting 15 minutes prior – what did you do for the campaign before the photo opportunity Cllr Hogg and Corris?

But I digress. The truth is that it is because of the actions of the local community and as far as I know NOTHING to do with Cllr Christine Corris, the planning application was rejected.

Also misleading in this keeping in touch flyer, is the fact that although the application has been rejected the phone mast company can appeal the decision and may well do so. So to state it has been stopped, suggesting a permanent final position, an taking credit for the same by Cllr Corris is again very misleading.

Of course, we should all be used to the Local Lib Dem councillors misleading us as this is what happened over Hazel Grove tip. You never did say who it was who mislead you Cllr Hogg?

What do you expect? Its the elections the week after next and a certain party (mentioning no names of course) are likely to get a good drubbing.

Also the planned site of the mast comes under the Stepping Hill ward. Where are the non existant councillors - Ben Alexander, Wendy Orrell & Mark Weldon?? Not a peep out of them!!!

As can be seen from the application pack (available online), Vodafone contacted the Authority and Councillors Corris, Hogg and Corris prior to formally submitting the application. No replies were received.

Cllr Christine Corris now has the knowledge that her constituents are against it, and in fact a higher proportion of originally consulted households voted against the application than voted at election. Perhaps she would like to say what her pre-application response would be next time. I have a kept a copy of her latest "Keeping in Touch" and I expect her to use those words in response should the situation arise.

To be fair, the old Queen told me how some local councillor (said he was Ben Alexander IIRC? - I will confirm tomorrow.) phoned her up and promoted their party to her, apparently she tore him to pieces as she works for the local government?

Not a name I knew prior to tonight TBH. The local stuff is all crap IMO. No power.

How do you think planning applications are decided and who makes the decisions. Your local cllrs of which Christine Corris is vice chair of the planning committee.

This mast was stopped because it is in an unsuitable location and Christine worked with the planning office to make sure it was. It never even made it to the committee stage all works done behind the scenes reccommending refusal so no need to bring it to committee stage.

As for who mislead me on the tip. GMWDA did. I had assurances that it would remain open but 3 years later Viridor GMWDA agents closed it. Much to my regret but the Council didn`t run it. Greater Manchester Waste Disposal Authority did along with Viridor their contractors.
They decide that traffic standing on Torkington Rd was dangerous and that the internal workings of the tip were too small for the larger vehicles they wanted to use so redvdloped the tip on Marple Rd into a much improved location and not too far away.

Marple is much too far away for a pedestrian with a wheelbarrow (or even without a wheelbarrow lol!).
Torky tip closed because it was too popular. Typical.
What next? Sell off Torky Park to developers? Many a true word said in jest hey!

As the previous company running Torky Tip left of their own accord; is there anything stopping Stockport Council taking advantage of the opportunity and running it themselves?
