I remember living at No: 2 St.Anns Road from the time I was 4 until I turned 19. I will always have a fondness for Hazel Grove and Bramhall. I am now 52 and live in upstate New York, USA in a small country town, not unlike the town where I grew up. Some day I would like to return with my wife and children for a holiday and enjoy again, a pint of 'Robbies' bitter in the Cock Hotel.

Belive me h/g is not as you remember it, unfortunatly the cock is not the place to take your wife & children. there are not many pubs you can go to without seeing drugs or fighting.does that sound like the h/g you remember? you would be better off staying put and keep your memories in tact.

Hiderleys Television and Radio Shop - was that real stubble?

The Golden Door - great cakes!

The Black Cat Restuarant(?) - yer, not quite a restaurant but I have some good memories of it

Frank Browne's the Barber - mmmh?

The old Co-Op with air assisted money transfers system - great idea. Great bank - I still have an old Co-op bank book with 7 shillings and 4 pence in.

Vernons fruit and veg shop - sadly missed.

Browne's the fish shop - smelly?

...and of course the Bamboo Night Club. Question: will my 1979 membership card still get me in?

Good memories - but not as it used to be!

Now, I live many hundreds of miles away in a town which is everything I wish Hazel Grove could be.

I lived in Bowerfield Avenue from 1960 to 1964 when I left and joined the Royal Navy.
I rember
Jacksons Jailhouse (school)
Little Black & White shop on Chester Road
Coop at Fiveways
Fiveways Pub
Neal & Hardy record shop
The swing on Torky Park over the stream
The girl that lived at the "Black Cat" cafe
Harry Worth filming part of his show at the railway station one bombfire night
The Grove Show
The Manor Lounge(beat club)and coffee bar next door, nearer Stockport and Osbourne-Bently School of Dancing, and the Youth Club down Dialstone Lane and working on Saturdays in the new Coop Supermarket on London Road near the Golden Door Cake Shop for 2.10s.
Now I live back in my home town of Southport after spending 25 years living in the North East. I will always have very happy memories of Hazel Grove.

Hi, I remember drinking in the Cock with you, I lived "across the pond" at the end of St Anns Rd. I left Hazel Grove in 1975 after I got married and went to live in Berlin, Have been back for quite some time now living just down the road from Hazel Grove.Chris is in Australia and re-married. Hazel Grove has changed quite considerabley but there is still the old place lurking beneath the surface. Hope you are well
