Hazel Grove Pubs

I would like to see how people rank the pubs in Hazel Grove. Which pubs are the best and which pubs need the most work doing on them? and anything else you think about the pubs in the Grove.

The three bears is nice, some up High Lane are good aswell. There's no family pubs in Hazel Grove that serve decent food in a friendly environment, I guess the closest to that is The Phoenix but that has quite a bad reputation.

Best - Lounge
Followed by, Bar One, Browns (a bit pretentious)
Best of the rest, Horse and Jockey, Fiveways, Rising Sun -although I hate the Landlords pathetic attempt at DJing Sat night - Get a pro in!!!)
Don't go in any other as they are either for kids (Bulls Head), full of old timers (Swan, Grapes etc.) or you need to have a death wish (Cock, Woodman etc)

Good news about the New food pub at Dale house, I hope it's family friendly (Nowhere else is).
New Italian bar could be good if it ever gets finished.
I also heard a new bar was possibly opening on the site of the kennels just futher up the road from the Italian bar - lets hope it gets the go ahead.

The kennels next to the railway bridge backing on to the park has indeed been given permission for a restaraunt/bar a rear terrace overlooking the park would be a great place to watch the football from and also be a deterrent to anti social behaviour as kids don`t like being watched when they are misbehaving

you are so wrong for allowing another bar in the grove, more trouble more drugs and less police what a combination. it seems to me that if the council are making money it is ok. why dont you people at the council open a youth club to keep the kids off the streets. what happend to the pod that was supposed to be built on torkington park? is it in the same draw as the by-pass? these kids that are drinking and dealing drugs (WHICH THEY ARE)mainly on devonshire park also very close to you mr hogg, are the future of this country.i am sure if your house price fell because of this you would be very naffed off.(not a lot of hope for us older people)come on work with the people of the grove instead of allowing more bars help the youngsters get off the drugs that will pay more dividends in the end!!!And the grove will be a nice place again!!!!

Can`t please all the people is a phrase I can relate to. If people look elsewhere on this site they will find lots of people asking for new pubs and children friendly outlets. You will also find other people decrying the decline of the village.
Planning laws allow very little discretion in whether something is allowed or not and the Councils hands are tied behind their backs because of NIMBYism. This new bar conformed with all the criteria and therefore could not be refused. I am sorry for the demise of 2 charity shops but welcome the regeneration of the Grove this is only the start.

I think you missed the point. This venue is of a higher standard than everything else in Hazel Grove or at least I would like to hope so. Ideally it will raise standards and people will flock there encouraging other pubs to up their game aswell. There are no family friendly pubs in the whole town which is shocking so hopefully this will buck the trend. And it wouldnt be a bad thing if some of the Robinsons pubs shut down because of it.

yes the landlord is out of touch with our sort of music but he does try very hard to please,i no that he has been told about your feelings as i was talking to him about it he was gutted and very hurt, and what he has told me is that most of the pubs in the grove are managed, he is not, he has to pay for everything and his priority is to get the pub back to the nice place that it once was, which is very hard when he has to replace things like toilets, lights, and even the curtains out of the ladies were stolen. because the small amount of idiots that want to ruin the place. You seem to be one of a large number of people who does respect a good pub.he wants things like the front to look good which he has worked dammed hard on as he and his sons built that and when the no smoking ban comes in (which is not soon enough)he is hoping to be able to do a referb inside. If you know of a good dj that doesnt charge the earth why not let him know. you could even phone if you dont anyone to who you are,or even put it on here and i will pass it on.if you do know of one remember to let the dj know he stays open till 1am fri & sat. Please dont be too hard on him he really is a nice guy (most of the time)

Hey, i'm not having a go at the Landlord - I listed his Pub as one of the best in the Grove!
All I said was he's not a very good DJ, to be honest it would be better to just play some compilations or a jukebox.
Also the "Disco" is way too loud near the speakers - which is where most of the seats are...
He used to have a DJ in before he tried doing it himself, I always thought he was alright for the venue.
Anyway I respect what he may be doing with the Pub and wish him luck, good to see at least one traditional style Pub making an effort to upgrade.
