Stockport’s attempt to be come a city

Surprise, surprise Stockport has once again failed in the bid to become a city!

Is anyone shocked by this? Why did we bother trying again anyway?

That may be the reason Stockport failed....'why did we bother attitude' of its residents.

Ironically after all the "Lib Dems are showing community pride" rhetoric - it was Nick Clegg who rejected Stockport's bid!

How embarassing...

Not likely!

I feel it's a fair question though, we were turned down last time and we have nothing new to offer this time around, if anything we actually have less to offer!

So why did we waste the time, money, etc.?

And how much did this farce cost the council? Was this part of Mr Hoggs regeneration plan?

Preston announced today that since it achieved city status 10 years ago it has not moved forward and Preston is in a bigger mess now.
perhaps we got lucky being rejected and as for ayatollah Goddard saying that the city bid process had raised stockports national profile sorry but that sounds like b******s to me.

We really don't need a higher profile when you consider the shootings, beheadings, drug dealing, psycho nurses, Teflon Don..........I could go on.

Just maybe, it was a rather pathetic attempt by the council, to divert the public's attention away from all the drastic, and in my opinion, ridiculous spending cuts, even if it did mean spending money we couldn't spare, just like a magician, wave the right hand about while the left picks your pocket, if you take my meaning.

I was just wondering the other day how the city bid was going, looks like I have my answer!

Not sure where I stand on the matter though. What would the benefits of been?
