Poynton Phase 2 & Hazel Grove

Many of you will be aware that Park Lane in Poynton has had a face-lift.

The second phase of the Poynton regeneration scheme is to sort the cross roads out at the church (known locally as Fountain Place). The scheme, which has been approved and granted funding, will basically be two connecting round-a-bouts. The idea is to keep a constant flow of traffic rather than the stop/start of traffic lights which is in place now. If you've ever gone from HG to Macc, you'll know all about the misery of queues through Poynton!

So, all looked rosie until some eegit from Altrincham decided to put her oar in and start a 'Poynton Against Phase 2' campaign. It's gathering momentum and it could mean phase 2 will be scrapped. This is bad news for HG as well as Poynton, in my opinion.

There's a petition here to try to garner support in favour of the scheme going ahead. If you've a mind to, will you please sign it?

Ta.

Any Hazel Grove resident who has any requirement to cross the junction at Poynton church has an interest in whether this scheme goes ahead or not.

So, that might include many residents of Hazel Grove who work in Poynton or Macclesfield or the industrial estates in Adlington.

It might include any of the Hazel Grove residents who send their children to school in Poynton (HG residents have children in a number of the primary schools and those who go to Poynton High School). Some are driven there, others use bus services that cross the junction.

It might include anyone who shops or visits Poynton itself for any other reason on a regular basis.

It might include those HG residents who have to go to Macc hospital for specialist cancer treatments and other ops etc.

The stop/start aspect of the crossroads will be replaced with a constant flow double roundabout thus making everyones' journey, for what ever reason, quicker and less hassle. It'll make rush hour journeys in particular less miserable.

I would prefer to not have to navigate 2 roundabouts on my drive home from Kings after 8 pints...

On a serious note, it does need sorting. When BAE gets bumped there will be a HUGE plot of land there worth billions that needs an improved road infrastructure in order to develop it for housing. It WILL happen but the routes out of there are awful; Poynton lights are crap, Bonis Hall lane is heldup, the A34 is a nightmare at certain times, the only one I don't know at busy times is passing the Deanwater and heading right off the roundabout.

It's part of the bigger picture and the council will rightfully be looking at their share of the pie when they shut Woodford.

That BAE site is in Stockport. S'gonna get interesting because they'll build a load of houses and where will those folk go to shop? Where will they send their children to school? Poynton's infrastructure is going to be strained but Stockport will be collecting & pocketing the taxes! Dunno quite how Poynton are going to strike a deal over it or, indeed, if they can strike a deal over it TBH!

The BAE site is going to be a community in itself; with shops and schools. The best bit is that its proposed that the houses will be social housing and/or for those that are on low income - that'll please the current residents

The BAE site is being rented to JCB - i'm involved with some of the electrical testing before they can move into some of the empty units.
