The SEMMMS Relief Road (South East Manchester Multi Modal Strategy) includes the fully funded A6 to Manchester Airport relief road and the Manchester Airport to M56 relief road schemes. This will complete the A555 (MAELR) road connecting to Manchester Airport in the west and Hazel Grove at its eastern end.

SEMMMS also includes plans for the currently unfunded road scheme proposals which are:
A523 Poynton bypass
A6 Hazel Grove to M60 Bredbury
Stepping Hill Link Road

These five sections together formed earlier plans for the construction of a dual carriageway bypass from M60 junction 25 around the south of Hazel Grove, connecting to the A555 (MAELR) road and completing the western end of the A555 to connect with the M56 Manchester Airport spur road.

MAELR (Manchester Airport Eastern Link Road) also known as the road to nowhere is the existing part of the A555 which has yet to be connected to Manchester Airport.
