Chester Road Closure from Monday 13th August
8th August 2012 at 6:38PM
Please see the update I received today. I can only apologise for the disruption this will cause, but the bridge is in a dangerous condition and needs to be replaced.

"Please be advised that from Monday 13 August, Chester Road, Hazel Grove will be closed to traffic whilst contractors working on behalf of Network Rail replace the rail over bridge adjacent to Vaudrey Drive. The duration of the works is programmed for two weeks. Pedestrian access will be permitted throughout except over the weekend of 18 / 19 August when the actual bridge will be replaced and during this operation, pedestrians will also be diverted. Some tree pruning will be required prior to the works and some of the existing street furniture will be removed prior to the replacement as the new bridge will be constructed on the adjacent playing fields and then tracked into place with the old similarly removed. The pedestrian island immediately to the south of the bridge will also be removed during the scheme and replaced before the road is reopened.

The signed diversion for traffic will be via Dean Lane, Macclesfield Road and London Road. Transport for Greater Manchester and Stagecoach have been consulted and although bus services will be disrupted throughout the works, diversions have been put in place to ensure as much as possible that routes are maintained.

The structure is actually two bridges side by side with one track over each. As the actual railway above is now a single track, only one bridge will be replaced. The structure will be fully pigeon proofed on completion."

No need to apologise, the bridge needs fixing, fix it and move on.

Yeah, well let's hope theh resist the urge to add more stupid speed mountains and or badly placed islands whilst the road is closed!

Probably about time the bridge is replaced, it's looked knackered for a while now!

Good thoughts Coleman. Perhaps the time of closure could be used to remove the useless lumps and bumps ...

While someone has mentioned the bumps and I am sure this has probably been answered elsewhere but if they were meant to slow the traffic down on a residential road, why do they stop just before the junction with Cavendish Road and not carry on to the Dean Lane lights - never quite got that! I am sure the must be a reason for it?

Just a quick answer if anyone knows, don't want to open the whole speed bump debate again :bomb:

I think the simple answer would be that they have been put in there and no further because the area covered has a high pedestrian level (especially kids) with the schools near by and the field!

The bend, narrow section and humpback bridge are in the opposite direction to Dean lane, could explain why the humps don't continue that end though!

Hi,

Im part of Norbury Cricket Club, and this has major affects to access to the dirt track that leads up to the ground. Do you no if access is going to be made available for this?
