Asda in Grove seeking support for Marple store!
4th January 2013 at 3:32PM
I have just been into Asda in the Grove. Instore a young lass approached with the dreaded clip board in hand. She asked me if I would sign her 'petition' in support of the proposed Asda development in Marple! Yes Marple. After she had finished telling me what a wonderful asset it would be to Marple, I asked her why she was in Hazel Grove and not Marple seeking to drum up support. No response from the nice young lady and no signature from me.

Great, give them an ASDA - save them coming to the grove?
Where are they putting it? Where the coop was I assume?

This is a prime example of why petitions are such a waste of time.

If they get a lot of names on their petition for Asda in Marple:
* Does that show strong support for an Asda?
* Does it really reflect the views of people of Marple?
* Does a petition for an Asda in Marple mean more if it has more names than a petition against one, especially if it consists mostly of people of Hazel Grove and other outside areas?

I know that a petition may sound all very well and good to begin with, but it does not really reflect the interests, passion or background of the name on the dotted line.

Though back on topic, I wonder how the good people of Marple feel about this?

Thanks for the info, I will pass it on to the "Marple in action" committee. If you didn't want an Asda in Hazel Grove then you should have put in a protest and contacted your local MP. Just because you couldn't be bothered to do anything about it does not mean we have to do the same!!! eyeroll

In my short time on this forum that is the single most stupid comment that I have read.

Are you suggesting nobody was against Asda in Hazel Grove?

Are you suggesting that if you complain to an MP it will stop their intentions?

Are you so ignorant to not be aware that Asda (Walmart) open stores in areas local to council estates (you do have them in Marple!)?

You live in Marple. Not Mayfair. Get over yourself. A friend of mine lives on Strines, A high 6 if not 7 figure property, he doesn't care if they build a 'supermarket' at it doesn't alter his house price. Only the 'status Queens' are bothered, not the Marple money.

After a less than sparkling Ofsted at Cheadle & Marple Sixth form college (it's funny how this is not on the college website by now) where for example leadership and management is at the lowest score possible ... 4 ... I wonder if the college will be forced to pull out of this venture with Asda. After all, student numbers and therefore money are likely to be far more challenging.
