We took the decision at the Stepping Hill Area Committee back in March of this year (link to the agenda and minutes below). The ward councillors (Stepping Hill ward) and local residents had complained about flytipping of items around the bins. It was felt that given the bins were put in prior to the roll out of home recycling collections, the bins were not as necessary as they once were.

Thank goodness they have gone. I live near by and some of the flytipping has been awful. Besides general household rubbish that people cannot be bothered to take to Rose Hill, people have fly tipped all kinds of furniture, soiled bedclothes and dirty nappies, used car batteries, garden rubbish including old fences, old carpets, wall paper, paint tins (on one occasion a partial full paint tin was dumped in the paper recycle bin and caused £s worth of damage at the recycle plant). In addition to thoughtless people, various businesses have fly tipped building rubble, domestic insulation, empty cans and boxes from food shops, plastic wrapping and soiled plastic sheeting, and removed broken bathroom fittings. In addition, at various times in the recent past there have been incidents of arson as kids set fire to the bins, vandalism as kids have pulled the bins across the car park into parked cars, and broken glass scattered over the car park and Lyndhurst Avenue.

Thank you Oliver.
Because my brown bin is often full well before collection day I now have to travel to Rose Hill with my excess plastic and glass. If only Hazel Grove had a local tip........

No real surprise here, I suspect there is a lot more glass and tin than plastic

You can request additional bins from the council, you need to fill in a "waste diary" and if it ticks the boxes you get an extra bin of the colour requested. Hopefully it won't be too long before Stockport introduces "Smart collection" where the bin sends a notification to be collected when full/weight is reached.

As a flat dweller I am slightly envious of all this coloured bin talk. Some of us only get blue bin bags, and have to deliver our own recycling to the collection point. And yes, it is mostly glass and tin :)
