Thanks Serenity. No idea if it would be a good thing in practice but on paper it looks workable.

The new car park could be good for outpatients, but it could be difficult to make it work for visitors, due to the increase in numbers arriving then leaving in a short time at the end of visiting hours.

I suppose they could tackle the Stepping Hill parking issue from another angle too. How about getting the staff to park on the new car park and busing them into the hospital too, and free up a large chunk of the parking around the hospital itself?

I can't see why that idea wouldn't work stukaville, especially for staff coming to work from that end of the Grove. Apparently the staff at the hospital pay a lot of money to park there so if they were offered a free car park and ride bus service I think that they might be tempted. And as for visitors not using it stukaville well I think that they might be tempted as well because of the shopping facilities that the Grove has to offer. Another reason why the shops should be prepared to get on board and help subsidise the shuttle as it all brings in extra trade for them.

However I'm not so sure that the hospital, or the council will want to get behind any ideas that either cost money (for the council) or result in lost revenue (for the hospital). Even if it meant reducing the traffic along the A6. But as I said if the bus brings in more trade and if the hospital car park gets used by patients then it an all round success story.

But I do think that it's going to be very difficult for the bus company or the council to look for sustainable long term ideas that will make this car park more attractive for the public to use without having to throw in a few lost leaders, such as a shuttle bus service.

As there's no way that I can see the public wanting to use it to park and ride into Stockport or Manchester, because the routes just to slow compared to the train. The only other possible solution is to have buses that don't stop at every stop which would cut the travel time down. But then the bus company would lose fares due to the reduction in stops.

I now been past the car park loads of times and it's nearly completely empty.

I know Oliver thinks it a white elephant. But surely it must be worth the council supporting the scheme until it's up and running.

I know that the company paid to have the car park built but some of the tax payers money I bet would have been used and will be used in the future. So lets see some of positive forecasted net results, such as less traffic.

If I remember rightly wasn't it our present Mayor that was initially right behind this scheme promising us less traffic. So come on our councillors and our Mayor lets see you give it your best shot. It's a great idea that is much needed and could potentially have such huge positive impact on the Grove and the A6 if only it was supported more.

Oliver great news that Stepping Hill hospital has now been chosen to become a specialist hospital. But I'm a bit concerned how the hospital will deal with the extra parking that will result from this decision being made. Will the local area just be expected to cope. See for yourself Oliver it doesn't now.

Oliver it would seem that unfortunately each time the hospital expands that nothing much is ever done to offer a solution to the real everyday parking issues that the local area has to put up with.

This news is yet another reason why this car new park must be utilised and not just left to become another white elephant Oliver.

Still not counted more than 8 cars in it - been passed at different times of day on different days of the week.

I just don't get it!

I think that the only answer possible Fi-lix is that they just don't want it to become a success. Simply because at a later date they want to use it for something else.

Oliver has there been any more thoughts on linking this scheme (via a shuttle bus service) to the hospital and utilising some of these free spaces, especially now the hospital has been chosen to become a specialist hospital and will need more available parking spaces than it has now?

I suppose once the bypass is in a park and ride to the airport would make it more lucrative for locals. If buses were direct only to say Manchester picadilly and Stockport that would make it more usable or attractive but surely otherwise you would (or I would) just jump on the train. At the moment the only advantage I can see from it (bar literally the one or two people that use it) is that its made that part of the area look nicer than it did as wasteland.

Sorry easygeezer98 it's not a bypass just a road to the airport. Wish it was a bypass.

And I'm not so sure how it would be lucrative for (Hazel Grove)locals as a park and ride to the airport.

Hopefully though the council might still consider subsidising a shuttle bus service to and from the hospital at least that way it would help relieve some of the traffic in the Grove.

and whilst it might look nicer it is still a wasteland - a total waste of valuable land and resources.

Do you think there's a chance that the Park and Ride has been put there with the intention of putting a tram link down the airport road? Thought just occurred to me - Metrolink use P&R to get folk on to trams!

not just me then who gets a bee in his bonnet when hearing the SEMMs road described as "the bypass". Didnt help the fact that the crook Stunnel actually congratulated himself in pre-election bumf, on his party being the party behind the development of the new bypass that work had recently been started on
