Does anyone have information about when the greyhound track opened and when it closed. Wikipedia says it closed 1960? - but that seems a bit late for me. Any ideas?

No idea?

A quick google shows that it was demolished in 69?

Ironically, I'm going to the dogs on Saturday at Belle View. No doubt my usual pattern of losing will continue until the final race when I go for trap 1 & 6 with a larger stake. If I spot a dog curling one out I back it on the basis that its lighter, power to weight and all that. LOL.

An interesting aerial view is on Google of the old dog track with a handful of houses on Haddon but the rest is all fields so its certainly pre-60's?

Didnt you go to the dogs a long time ago Norma? I remember Belle View very well, have been on a works night out there great time. Does anyone remember the fun fair, zoo, speedway, and when I grew a bit older the night clubs on the site, elizabethan, beerkeller and some I cannot remember. Later was the bowling alley. Belle view was a great place in the erm 60s 70s.

I didn't go to the dogs but I've been with a few...

60's/70's? Christ? I think I studied that period whilst at school in ancient History lessons? The same with the Mayans and Egyptians. There is a correlation between them, fossils, ancient mummies and bandages...

Thanks for the info so far. I remember it was open in the early fifties but beyond that nothing. As to Belle Vue, my grandkids do not believe that Manchester had its own zoo and fun park. As a small child a visit to the zoo was magic - especially a ride on the elephant. Each Christmas there was a circus, and the Messiah in the Kings Hall. As a teenager I often went to dance or ride with a young lady on the Ghost Train.
