You are all probably aware of the flooding that has happened - I am in contact with the Environment Agency to get assistance out to the affected areas.

Please do not hesitate to get in contact with me if you need help 07445927593.

By way of an update, most of the seriously affected areas now seemed to have drained but I believe further rain is forecast.

I spoke to the Environment Agency late last night and they believe this has been caused by excess surface water draining into water courses, not the water courses themselves flooding. Interpret as thou willt.

They are still in the area assisting with drainage and the emergency services have been fantastic with their help too.

No problem - I have been out today checking in on residents around Nelson Street, Hazelwood Road and Brookfield Terrace and also made some house calls on Buxton Road. Very impressed by how positive and proactive everyone has been, even those who are having to leave their homes to dry out.

I am arranging meetings this week with both the Council and the A6MARR contractor, Carrillion Morgan Sindall to review responsiveness and what happened.

Furthermore I am going to arrange for drainage to be inspected around Hazelwood Road and Cooper Street.

Has there been any explanation as to why this flooding was so bad. Many of us have lived in the Grove for donkeys years and don't recall any incidents of it being this severe. I know the rain was pretty bad, but it has been bad before and doesn't account for this.

Is there any truth in the rumour that the environment agency gave the builders of the new By-pass permission to drain off in to Poise Brook? If so, does this mean this will become a regular accurrence?

when you look at some of the road gullies around the grove, especially on side roads, many are blocked up with soil and rubbish, and have been for a long time.Is there no regular maintenance plan as was done in the past?

I am asking many of the same questions, Twisted - this will be the basis of my meeting with concerned parties, as well as the response.

I think on Hazelwood Road, the drains seemed to have certainly exacerbated the problem. Thanks to some quick thinking by residents who managed to unblock them, more severe damage was avoided in many properties.

I spoke to the Environment Agency yesterday who has cleared the drains along the brook but as I mentioned above I have asked for the drains on Hazelwood to be inspected. I am aware at least on is damaged on Cooper Street.

Update!

1. I have managed to arrange for the gulleys to be jetted and cleaned on Hazelwood Road.

2. I am in the process of arranging a meeting with senior Council officers and the contractor at A6MARR (Carillion Morgan Sindall) to discuss what happened and issues that residents have raised with me.

Thanks all for your patience.

As a resident on Hazelwood Road at the worst hit point I was extremely shocked about the events on Saturday. We had no help from the emergency services/environment agency and we had to help ourselves in a scary situation. It was not helped by the selfish individuals who were driving through the flood water causing the dirty water to enter our porches!!! (I'm sure if this was outside their property they would have reacted in a similar way)

I for one will be extremely interested to hear the outcome of the meeting with the contractors especially as they may have placed our house at risk

Katie I will feedback once I have had those meetings. I am in talks with other councillors about a potential public meeting too which may be of interest.

I think the delay in getting Hazelwood Road closed has been mentioned a lot by residents and this will be investigated.

Also if anyone is interested, my request for a skip off the council was granted - it is located on Battersbay Grove for the disposal of flood damaged items.
