The village is an important residential area of Stockport and reaches to the lower southern slopes of Werneth Low, an outlier of the Peak District between the valleys of the River Tame and River Goyt.

2 miles north of Stockport, and historically a part of Lancashire, Reddish grew and developed rapidly during the Industrial Revolution and still retains landmarks from that period, such as the former textile mill, Houldsworth Mill.
